After a big effort, the spiders slack off

kw: blogs, blogging, spider scanning, AI agents, AI training

I'm wondering whether to devise a different term than Spiders for the AI agents that are producing all the traffic. I suspect there is less LLM training going on, and more cases of my blog being checked by agentic tools, because I have such an eclectic range of subjects. It is a nice thought.

I produced this image with Gemini and did no further edit prompting. I could have asked for the text to be removed, but it's cute enough just like it is.

Anyway, have a look at the view stats for the past year:

That big blast lasting nearly two weeks, and which ended about a week ago, represents more than a million views. Then things dropped significantly. However, it's not totally quiet; there are still 10,000 to 15,000 daily views since then. Note that a year ago, most days were in the 1,000 range for most of November and December, with a blip as high as 2,500/day in mid December.

I thought things were crazy when the hash hit in the middle, from March to early August. I don't know what this October Surprise could be. If it was really AI agents, what changed?

Anyone else who's on Blogger, what do your stats show?
